Thoughts on communication and its importance to the process...Read the cartoon above and on the Methods and Strategies page and you will see that everyone sees everything differently, no matter how carefully something is initially explained. That is why projects need a good project manager and committees need a chairman and why communication is so very important in every step of any project. That project manger or chairman or "teacher" must be an excellent communicator; managing in a vacuum is rarely if ever successful. Teaching and learning starts and ends with communication. All connections are formed through communication. The better you communicate with faculty and students the better the connections you create. With great communication you have a chance at achieving the outcome everyone needs and desires.
The Methods and Strategies described in the next section and in the Assessment Plan are directly related to the Information and Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education developed by the Association of College & Research Libraries. Simplified, the five standards specifically address the student's NEED for information, HOW the student accesses the information, the EVALUATION of the information, the USE of the information and the ETHICS surrounding using other peoples work, such as citation, copyright and plagiarism.
